The Biennial International Paris Air Show at Paris-Le Bourget has been the premier and largest worldwide event dedicated to the aviation and space industry for a century. This year for the 49th time from June 20-26, 2011.
- Airbus -
At the 49th Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, Airbus won about US$72.2 billion worth of business for a total of 730 aircraft. This success sets a new record for any commercial aircraft manufacturer at any air show ever. The commitments comprise Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 312 aircraft worth US$28.2 billion and firm purchase orders for 418 aircraft worth around US$44.0 billion.
The A320neo Family was clearly the star of the week and proved irresistible to airlines and lessors alike, by winning an unprecedented 667 commitments worth some US$60.9 billion.
- Boeing -
The show saw the international debut of Boeing’s newest commercial aircraft models – the 747-8 Intercontinental and 747-8 Freighter – together with the appearance of the innovative 787 Dreamliner.
The new 747-8 Freighter flew to Le Bourget with all four engines powered by a fuel blend containing 15 percent camelina-based biofuel, achieving the world’s first transatlantic crossing of a commercial jetliner with biofuels.
Other Boeing highlights at the show included the presence of an Air Berlin 737-700 with the new Boeing Sky Interior; a Qatar Airways Boeing 777-200LR, the world’s longest-range passenger jetliner; a C-17 Globemaster III military airlifter; an F-15E Strike Eagle multi-role fighter jet, and a CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift helicopter.
- Solar Impulse -
The show though has scooped the first public appearance and flying display by the Solar Impulse solar-powered aircraft as its ‘special guest’. Its .appearance at Le Bourget will be the first time the prototype, currently working up to a series of record-breaking flights, will make a public airshow appearance outside home country of Switzerland. The organisers said that the Solar Impulse was planned to make a 10-15min flight every day (bar one), weather conditions permitting. This only happend at the last day of the 49th Paris Air show, Sunday June 26.
Eurocopters X3 compound helicopter prototype will take part in the flying display.
Also flying over from Toulouse is the ATR 72 (including the new -600)
The Patrouille de France will be on flying display at public days 24, 25 and 26 June.
